Debt and Money Advice from CARF

Are you struggling to keep making all your payments? Do you want to manage your money better?

CARF’s Money Advice Unit has a team of specialist advisers who provide free, confidential, independent money advice and debt management services.  We employ fully trained advisers to assist with all sorts of financial issues, from repossession to bankruptcy.

In 2018/2019:

  • we dealt with 2,244 enquiries of which 1300 become complex multiple debt cases.
  • 95 clients had £1.5 million of debt restructured via the Scottish Government’s Debt Arrangement Scheme, helping to keep some in their homes and reduce the pressures that debt places on them.
  • 291 Bankruptcy Applications were submitted, an increase of approximately 38% on the previous year.

Debt problems

Many clients may wish to deal with their debt situations themselves and we have created a DIY Debt Pack to help in this instance. The DIY Debt Pack gives advice on how you can deal with your debts and includes a Budget Sheet and Sample Letters that can be sent to your creditors. Download your DIY Debt Pack here.

We also understand that not everyone feels confident to deal with their debts on their own, so we offer appointments across Fife where you can speak directly and in confidence to one of our experienced, fully trained Money Advisers.
