Elsa’s story: taking the heat out of keeping warm

Date published: 20th August 2015

Elsa contacted the CARF general advice line about her high energy bills where she was referred to our Healthy Heating Project. Recently widowed and with a number of serious health issues, it would have been difficult for Elsa to come into our offices so a home visit was arranged.

A trained CARF adviser saw that Elsa was entitled to an increased level of benefits and helped her fill in the application forms. Elsa was subsequently awarded Attendance Allowance, Pension Credit and Council Tax Reduction ensuring that she was now over £4,300 better off over the year.

We also identified that Elsa was eligible for a Home Energy Scotland Energy Assistance Scheme, and Elsa is now awaiting the installation of her new boiler system.
