Pension Credit is a means tested benefit that can be claimed to top up your income if you (and your partner) have reached state pension age.

There are two different types of Pension Credit: Guarantee Pension Credit and Savings Pension Credit.

You may be entitled to either one or both types of Pension Credit depending on your circumstances.

Guarantee Pension Credit tops up your weekly income if it is below £173.75 per week or £265.20 per week if you are a couple.

You may still be eligible if you have savings, a private pension or own your home but this depends on the amount of income and savings you have.

Entitlement to Guarantee Pension Credit may also result in help with your housing costs, Council Tax or health costs.

Savings Pension Credit can be claimed if you (and your partner) have reached state pension age before 6 April 2016.

Entitlement to Savings Pension Credit also depends on your income and savings however you may be eligible if your weekly income is over £173.75 or £265.20 for a couple.

You can claim Pension Credit online or by calling the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 991 234.
