Text to Switch Your Mobile Network Provider

Date published: 3rd July 2019

It’s been made easier to leave your existing mobile phone network.  Ofcom have acted over concerns about how some providers frustrated customer attempts to leave their network by using unwanted pressure to persuade them to stay.  This was because previously you had to call your provider to ask for a porting authorisation code (PAC) which is a special number you need to give to a new provider for the switching process to happen.

Now there’s a ‘text-to-switch’ process which removes the need to speak to your existing provider.  To switch, keeping your existing number, text ‘PAC’ to 65075.  You’ll then be sent your code to switch including other information such as early termination charges (if any).  You then give the PAC to your new provider and you are switched within one working day.

If you want switch and get a new number, simply text ‘STAC’ to 75075 which is a service termination authorisation code.

If you’re not sure if you’re still in contract, text ‘INFO’ to 85075 which will result in you being sent information on any current contract and termination charges.
